1. What we collect

To create an account and use UniUyo Community, we collect:

• Account details: name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and account type (student, staff, alumni, etc.)
• Verification documents: a photo or scan of an ID document, used only to confirm you're a genuine member of the University of Uyo community
• Payment information: processed directly by Flutterwave, our payment provider — we do not see or store your card details ourselves
• Content you post: hostel listings, past questions, notes, marketplace items, event posts, and similar content you choose to share
• Basic usage data: which features you use, to help us fix bugs and improve the platform

2. How we use it

• To create and maintain your account
• To verify you're a genuine member of the university community, protecting other users from fake accounts
• To display your name and content to other users where the feature requires it (e.g. a hostel listing shows who posted it)
• To process your one-time registration payment
• To respond to support requests

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Who we share data with

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to run the platform:

• Firebase (Google): account authentication and database storage
• Cloudinary: storage for uploaded photos and documents
• Flutterwave: payment processing

Each of these providers has its own privacy and security practices governing how they handle data on our behalf.

4. Verification documents

Documents uploaded for identity verification are used only to confirm eligibility for your selected account type. They are not shared publicly and are not visible to other users of the platform.

5. Your choices

• You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• You can request that your account and associated data be deleted
• You can update your profile information at any time from your account settings

6. Data retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, we remove your personal data within a reasonable timeframe, except where we're required to keep certain records (e.g. payment records) for legal or accounting purposes.

7. Children's privacy

UniUyo Community is intended for university-aged students, staff, and alumni. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform grows. If we make significant changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
